Alternative Gift Market Closes
The Northminster Alternative Gift Opportunities Market was held in the Sanctuary the three Sundays before Christmas. Many stopped at the Market to “buy” items to support the projects offered through the Alternative Gifts International organization, the Baby Basics of Troy Ministry program, or Troy People Concerned. Hopefully your gifts will bring pleasure to whomever they are given, and we know with certainty that the people helped by these projects will be very grateful.
Annual Benevolences decisions were made by the Church, Society and Mission committee and with Session’s full approval, checks have been sent. In the annual report we will give a full accounting of which organizations or programs Northminster’s funds went to support.
We also sent out the second half of the Borchardt Memorial Scholarship grants to this year’s three recipients.
Mittens and Hats to be Distributed in January
Our mitten and hat tree is still in the hall in the east entrance alcove and is pretty full with new mittens or gloves and hats for elementary school-aged children in Pontiac schools. If you hadn’t had a chance to add to the tree, you still have time! Chris will deliver them on our behalf when school resumes in January. Thank you to all who contributed to helping keep some kids warmer this winter.
A Baby Basics Christmas
Thank you to all who took and filled a gift bag for the siblings of our Baby Basics families. There are 17 of them, and each one will have a small token of our heartfelt wishes for a wonderful holiday season. We will also have lovely teddy bears to give to every one of our 16 babies and toddlers. We shared cookies, cocoa & coffee and conversation on Dec. 21 with our families, who are always so very appreciative!
We also received some donations in response to our Christmas appeal letter, plus diapers from 2 diaper drives: one from JD Powers employees, and another from one extended family which chose to support Baby Basics in lieu of their usual gift exchange.
