On Sunday, December 18, 2016 at 10:30 AM, the Northminster Choir accompanied by an instrumental ensemble, will present the beautiful Early American Service of Lessons and Carols, created and arranged by Tim Sharp.
Under the direction of Brandon Ulrich, rehearsals have begun and will continue through the month of December. Please mark your calendars and invite family and friends. We would love to have a full congregation for this beautiful celebration of Advent and Christmas!
This service of lessons and carols is modeled after the Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols which takes place annually on Christmas Eve at the Chapel of King’s College in Cambridge, England. It has been a tradition at King’s since 1918.
The beauty of this service is its simplicity and flexibility. The story and meaning of Christmas are conveyed through scripture, prayer, choral and congregational song. Readings are from the King James Version of the Bible and musical interpretations are drawn from early American resources.
Advent begins this coming Sunday, November 27 and extends to Christmas Day. As always our Christmas Eve service at 7:00 PM will include reading the Christmas story, singing carols and lighting candles. This year as Christmas falls on a Sunday, we will have informal worship on 12/25 at 10:30 AM in our worship space with the members of Central Woodward Christian Church (CWCC). On New Year’s Day, also on a Sunday, we are invited to worship with CWCC in their space at 10:30 AM.
Please make plans to join us for the watching and waiting season of Advent and the joyful season of Christmas!
