Our neighbors at Big Beaver United Methodist Church (BBUMC) are now sponsoring a refugee family from Iraq, working in partnership with Samaritas. They were recently introduced to their family and are pleased to be making a difference in the lives of the family members.
Area congregations have been invited to consider partnering with their Refugee Resettlement Committee as they provide about 6 months of ongoing care for this family in need. They specifically are in need of volunteers to serve in many roles, especially providing transportation. Providing transportation would involve adding one's name to our list of volunteers who are willing to drive the family or individuals to and/or from appointments and errands, perhaps for a few hours once a week, once a month, or on an as-needed basis, at a mutually convenient time.
Volunteers are asked to attend a training/ orientation prior to working with the family. If you would like to learn more about this opportunity to partner with BBUMC, please contact Ruth Turner, who can pass on the contact information for Brenda Balas, the project chair at BBUMC.
