The next TIG event will be our annual potluck picnic on August 7 at 6:30 pm. at Boulan Park in Troy (west side of Crooks, between Big Beaver and Wattles Roads). Join our members and friends and get to know one another better and on a personal level, through friendly discussion and sharing of good food! Look for balloons near the pavilions at the west end of the park.
Optional: you’re invited to bring a dish to pass (people usually bring desserts or appetizer-type foods) and a lawn chair.
September 21 is the International Day of Prayer. Many days, TIG has held an event commemorating this day, but this year we are collaborating with the city or civic organizations in a joint effort. There will be short program (with a few civic leaders sharing their thoughts or reflections on peace) along with a song or two, all to be held in the Memorial Garden just outside the Troy Public Library (weather permitting, otherwise, inside the Library) at 7:00 pm.
In addition to that program, we are adding an additional component: people are asked to read and reflect or meditate on readings about peace for each of the 21 days leading up to the Day of Peace.
Participants will also be invited to crochet or knit shawls, or color pages (for adults and children) with symbols or thoughts about peace. At least 21 days of readings, along with the instructions for the shawl and the coloring pages, will be provided via email in August. The shawls and pictures will be dedicated the evening of the program and donated.
