The first Troy-area Interfaith Group meeting of the new year will provide a program that is very timely. We will view and have discussion following the video “Not in Our Town: A Light in the Darkness”. This video tells the story of Long Island village residents taking action after a local immigrant is killed in a hate crime. The Troy Area Alliance Against Hate Crimes is co-sponsoring the program, to be held at the Troy Police Dept., EOC Room, 500 W. Big Beaver, Troy on Monday, Jan. 9 at 7:00 pm. We will also be able to view some of the short videos focusing on anti-bullying and which were created by Troy-area HS students. Please plan to join us!
TIG is also one of many co-sponsors of the Martin Luther King “Celebration of Freedom”. The Celebration will be on Jan. 16, 2017, starting at 8:30 am at the Troy Athens High School, 4333 John R. Road. This annual event will be somewhat different than previous celebrations, as attendees will participate in various service projects to benefit veterans, hospital patients, and food banks. There will also be a blood drive held that day.
The event incorporates children, young adults and musical/theatrical presentations and a breakfast will be served. We hope you can attend; it is for all ages and all are welcome.
