It’s been a very strange time for TIG – first time ever since 2005 that they haven’t held a National Day of Prayer event, nor attended the Troy Community Coalition Annual Prayer Breakfast!
The April meeting, of course, was cancelled in person, but the invitation to watch the virtual, online Central Woodward Christian Church’s Easter Service was passed on to TIG members and friends.
A decision about the June meeting – a visit to a JAIN temple in Farmington Hills – hasn’t been made yet. If you are on the TIG email list, look for an announcement.
The TIG Service Day was cancelled, and TIG also decided to cancel the National Day of Prayer. The Troy Community Coaltion cancelled their Prayer Breakfast, which prompted TIG to follow suit.
The April meeting is an invitation to attend Easter worship services at Central Woodward. That has not yet been cancelled, but we will keep you apprised in Northminster Notes, as well as any other changes to the calendar of events.
Join TIG at our January meeting, once again held on Dr. Martin Luther King Day. TIG is co-hosting with KYND/Know Your Neighbor Daily and the Troy Police Dept. to offer another program featuring the Not in Our Town videos: “When Hate Happens Here”. The film and discussion will be led by Cathy Russ, Director of Troy Public Library and Troy Police Chief Frank Nastasi will share ideals for actively reducing tolerance and promoting peace. January 20, 7:00p.m. at the Troy Police Dept. Emergency Operations Center, 500 W. Big Beaver Rd. (around the circle, behind the Library).
Also on January 20 at 8:30a.m., join Troy residents at Athens High School for a day of service in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King. There will be a short program about Dr. King, and then an opportunity to work on various service projects serving our community and NAGO Market soldiers overseas.
On March 1st, join IFLC/InterFaith Leadership Council at the Annual World Sabbath at North Congregational Church of Farmington, 36520 W. 12 Mile Road in Farmington at 4:00p.m. It is a wonderful interfaith service for peace that involves prayers, singing, and dancers in many traditions. For details, see the flyer coming to our bulletin board and website, or speak to Ruth Turner.
July 13th the Troy-area Interfaith Group (TIG) meeting is a workday at Gleaners, 9:00 – 11:30 am in Warren (2416 Mound Rd.). Join TIG members and friends as we work together to help sort and pack food for various food pantries, shelters and meal kitchens serving our area. Register directly at http://troyareainterfaithgroup.gcfb.volunteerhub.com.
TIG picnic Aug. 5 at Boulan Park, 6:30-7:30 pm. Our annual Potluck Picnic is a great time to re-connect, renew and begin new friendships with friends and supporters. Bring a dish to pass if you would like, as well as what you want to drink, and we’ll provide paper products.
