The Youth extend a huge THANK YOU to everyone who donated cereal for this year’s Cereal for Summer Campaign. After all the boxes were counted (including those purchased with cash donations), we totaled 177 boxes of cereal to share with kids who are food insecure. This surpasses our goal of 150!
86 boxes were delivered to the Presbytery of Detroit for distribution to its various food and pantry programs. 50% of the boxes will be delivered to the Presbytery for its 9 feeding sites in the metro area. The other 50% will stay in Troy and be donated to Morse Elementary School for their Morse Summer Nights Program. Morse elementary has over 35% of its students receiving subsidized or free breakfast and lunch during the school year; but when school ends, so does that support. Morse Summer Nights is a program benefitting the school community through literacy programs, a meal, and groceries to take home each week.
As the youth shared with us, cereal can be eaten at any point in a day and, most cereal is vitamin fortified.
On July 10th, the youth will be delivering the remaining 91 boxes to Morse Elementary for the Summer Nights Feeding program which provides school families with produce and other food items during the summer months.
Thank You for supporting this project. Next year the goal is 200 boxes!
